Diesel ISO 4406 Monitoring

Live, cloud-streamed ISO 4406 cleanliness data for stored diesel from Trendfuel — paired with single-pass filtration from our strategic partner DieselPure that cleans the fuel before it reaches your engines, even in the most remote and harsh environments on earth.

Trendfuel delivers live, cloud-streamed ISO 4406 cleanliness data for stored diesel, paired with single-pass SAE J1488:2010 filtration from our strategic partner DieselPure. Trendfuel's laser particle counters report counts from 4–70 µm with sub-3-second latency, trigger email and SMS alarms, and can lock out dispensing when fuel breaches your threshold; DieselPure's filtration brings it back within spec — so contaminated diesel never reaches an injector or generator.

What diesel ISO 4406 monitoring is

ISO 4406 is the international standard for reporting the cleanliness of a fluid as a three-part code based on particle counts at 4, 6 and 14 µm — for example 14/12/6, where lower numbers mean cleaner fuel. Diesel ISO 4406 monitoring applies that code to your stored diesel and tracks it over time.

Done properly, monitoring is continuous rather than periodic. Trendfuel uses laser particle counters that measure particle sizes from 4 to 70 µm and stream the resulting ISO 4406 code to a secure cloud dashboard with sub-3-second particle-counter-to-cloud latency (under 4 seconds round trip from most locations). That turns cleanliness from a number you discover weeks later in a lab report into a live signal you can act on the instant fuel starts to degrade.

The reason it matters: water, airborne dust and natural fuel ageing push stored diesel past ISO 4406 limits long before anyone notices. By the time an injector pump fails or a standby generator won't start on demand, the damage is already done. A live ISO 4406 reading — backed by alarms and, if you want it, dispensing lockout — catches the problem while it is still cheap to fix. Trendfuel has applied this approach while monitoring over 1 million litres of fuel every week since 2020.

How Trendfuel does it

Live, connected and proven

Trendfuel is not a one-off measurement or a brochure spec. It is a working system you can watch online — built on three things competitors rarely combine.

Live

Continuous particle counting

Laser particle counters stream ISO 4406 codes from 4–70 µm to a secure cloud dashboard with sub-3-second latency — not a sample sent away and read days later.

How it works
Connected

Alarms, lockout & reach

email and SMS alarms on warning and limit thresholds, optional dispensing lockout, and 5G/LTE/3G, LoRaWAN or satellite connectivity for the most remote, harsh sites.

Filtration that hits the number

DieselPure's single-pass SAE J1488:2010 filtration cleans diesel in one pass — 22/20/14 to 9/6/0 — at 40 to 2000+ L/min, with 12+ years of Trendfuel HMI/PLC integration behind it.

Why it's different

Not tank telematics. Not a lab. Not filtration alone.

"Fuel monitoring" means very different things to different vendors. Trendfuel sits in a category of its own — the live, connected ISO 4406 layer, with the operating record to prove it. Here is how it compares to the three adjacent approaches.

  • vs. tank-level telematics — Level and usage gauges measure quantity: how much fuel you have, theft and delivery timing. They say nothing about cleanliness. Trendfuel measures particle counts and the ISO 4406 code, and our strategic partner DieselPure cleans the fuel.
  • vs. spot & lab particle counting — Handheld counters and lab oil analysis are accurate but periodic and delayed: the result describes the fuel as it was, not as it is. Trendfuel is continuous and live, with sub-3-second latency and instant alarms.
  • vs. filtration-only providers — Fuel-polishing and filtration services clean diesel but have no live data layer. Trendfuel is the data-and-control brain on top of filtration, pairing DieselPure's SAE J1488:2010 single-pass cleaning with continuous proof it worked.

Who it's for

One platform, three critical-fuel operations.

Data centers

Standby fuel you can verify

Backup diesel must run the instant the grid drops. Continuous ISO 4406 data from Trendfuel shows its condition and single-pass filtration from DieselPure can bring it into spec — backed by Trendfuel HMI/PLC control systems at 120+ global emergency-power sites including hyperscale data centers.

Mining

Protect haul-truck fleets

Remote sites, abrasive dust, huge fuel volumes. Live cleanliness data and high-flow filtration — up to 2000+ L/min — keep injectors alive across the 1.2M litres analysed weekly in the Pilbara.

Emergency power

Data for standby readiness

Hospitals, telecom and utilities can't gamble on stored-fuel quality. Trendfuel measures and reports it live, with alarms and stored records to document cleanliness on demand; DieselPure can bring it into spec.

Common questions

Diesel ISO 4406 monitoring, answered.

What is diesel ISO 4406 monitoring?
Diesel ISO 4406 monitoring continuously counts solid particles in stored diesel at 4, 6 and 14 µm and reports cleanliness as a three-part code such as 14/12/6 — lower is cleaner. Trendfuel streams this code live from laser particle counters to a secure cloud dashboard with sub-3-second latency, covering particle sizes from 4 to 70 µm.
How is this different from tank-level fuel monitoring?
Tank-level telematics measure how much fuel you have — quantity, usage and theft. Trendfuel measures how clean the fuel is. We stream live ISO 4406 particle counts, and our strategic partner DieselPure cleans the fuel with single-pass SAE J1488:2010 filtration, so contamination is detected by Trendfuel and corrected by DieselPure before it reaches an injector or generator.
Is continuous monitoring better than lab or spot particle counting?
Lab and handheld spot counts are accurate but periodic and delayed — the result describes the fuel as it was, not as it is now. Trendfuel is continuous and connected: live ISO 4406 data, alarms by email and SMS, and optional dispensing lockout, so a problem is caught the moment it appears.
How clean can single-pass filtration make stored diesel?
On live mining sites, DieselPure's single-pass SAE J1488:2010 filtration routinely takes stored diesel from ISO 4406 22/20/14 before the filter to 9/6/0 after a single pass, at flow rates from 40 to over 2000 L/min, with Trendfuel monitoring cleanliness throughout.
Will it work at a remote site with no fixed internet?
Yes. Trendfuel supports 5G/LTE/3G, IoT SIM cards, LoRaWAN and satellite (including Starlink) connectivity, so live fuel-cleanliness data streams from even the most remote worksites — including the Pilbara in Australia, where roughly 1.2 million litres are analysed every week.
